BMMS UCLan Mountain Weather Day - Join Us!

After our incredibly successful Facial and Dental Trauma Day, the British Mountain Medicine Society (BMMS) and UCLan's Centre for Mountain Medicine are back with plans for a new face-to-face meeting on Friday December 13th. Here's some details...
As we close in on the shortest day we've invited two experts to help us deal with some of the many challenges that we face in winter.
Gary Nicholson is Project Manager and Forecaster with the Mountain Weather Information Service (MWIS). With more than a decade of forecasting under his belt, there's no one better to teach us about the UK's ever-changing weather patterns and how they're best managed. With a strong practical focus, Gary will talk us through the forecasting of rain, hail and snow, wind strength and direction, as well as the all important freeze thaw cycles necessary for winter climbing. There will be lots of opportunities to interpret data and build our own forecasts too.
Inbetween Gary's sessions, Paramedic Nick Wright and his band of MRT helpers will give us a "hands on" session looking at how the experts treat hypothermia in the hills. You'll get to grips with the latest kit and learn the tried and tested techniques that have saved countless lives. As a Lecturer in Mountain Medicine at UCLan, Nick is able to combines practical skills with knowledge of the latest research. It promises to be a fascinating session!

The course will take place at Hathersage Memorial Hall (S32 1DU). The day will begin at 0930 and finish at 1700.
The cost of the day is £90. A £20 discount is available to BMMS members.
