Mountain Trauma Day
Posted by Jeremy Windsor on Feb 21, 2025
On Friday May 9th 2025, Mountain Rescue England and Wales (MREW), British Mountain Medicine Society (BMMS) and University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) will be joining forces to present a one day face-to-face event in the Peak District. Further information can be found here…
As health care providers we often lose touch with those that we treat. MRT members rarely hear about their casualties once they reach hospital, whilst those working in acute specialties learn very little about their patient’s recovery and rehabilitation. Our Mountain Trauma Day on Friday 9th May is an attempt to get a better feel for the whole process - from the first minutes of resuscitation right through to the many months of therapy. Joining us will be lots of familiar names - including Jamie Barclay, Helen Blamey, Luke Mueller, Steve Rowe, Holly Warder and Jeremy Windsor - all of whom work in different areas of trauma management. Expect real life cases, practical insights and lots of audience involvement.
We’ll also be hearing from those who’ve experienced trauma themselves. This includes Nigel Vardy, who suffered life changing frostbite injuries on Denali and returned 25 years later in order to meet those who rescued him. Nigel will bring together what promises to be a fascinating day!
There are a maximum of 32 places available.
Anyone with an interest in the management of trauma is welcome to attend.
The event will take place at Hathersage Memorial Hall (S32 1DU). The day will begin at 0930 and finish at 1700.
The cost of the day is £90. There's a £20 discount for those who are either MRT or BMMS members.
Anyone who is volunteering to help out on the BMMS BMC Mountain Medicine Weekend (10-11th May 2025) is also eligible for the £20 discount.
To book your place please contact Jeremy Windsor via email - JWindsor2@uclan.ac.uk
Lunch, refreshments and an attendance certificate are included in the price.
